Animal Collage

We worked hard to create some amazing animal collage artwork. We began by creating abstact responses using crayon, dye, vivid zentangles and paint and pastel.
Next.....Rip apart!.... and rearrange.
Finally we decided which type of animal we were inspired to create and designed eyes, nose, beaks ect.
The finishing touches were added with black and white paint to give fur, whisker or feather effects.

Inquiry - Tuakana Teina

As part of our Term 3 inquiry some of us investigated traditional Maori instruments. Here is a fun blooper out-take. Glad we could have some fun and learn to laugh a little when things go wrong. Good use of the Finding Humour intelligent habit..."Laugh a Little" Nice work Jake!!

Little Fire - Avalanche City

One of our class's favourite songs didn't have a you tube lyrics version for us to sing along to so Mr Murphy challenged us to make one. Charlie produced this clever version. Have a look and sing along.....

Coding with microbits !

We have had a chance to do some coding with Microbits. In Maths we had been playing a card game called 'Salute' to practise our basic facts. Mr Murphy decided a digital version may be more fun. Our microbits were coded to produce a random number when flipped and display it on the LED's.
Great fun, great coding and great Maths!
Building our code.
Test run

Game on..... answer is 9, what must my number be?

Salute !

Science Inquiry

Recently we have been using science as a focus for our inquiry. We wanted to be be able to "Notice, Think and Wonder"
We aimed to be curious, to ask quality questions, seek out answers for ourselves and develop our critical thinking by exploring the physical and material world.
Here's a look at some of our doings...
Bombs away....

What could we change?

How far could they go? How high?

What if we change the projectile?

Does the position of the spoon matter?
Will thicker fabric absorb more? How will we know?

Where is your evidence?

Use your senses....

What happens if we combine them?

How does this fizz?
Can we make a circuit?
Will extra batteries make it glow brighter?

Can we add a switch?
On!
Off........

Series vs Parallel.....

Budding electricians !

3D shapes

We have been learning about 3D shapes. We completed a cube net challenge where we had to find as many nets to create a cube as possible. Here's a look at some of our work

Thinking Interdependently

We have been learning about the Habit of the Mind which is to do with team work and working and communicating as part of a group. Our challenge was to stack cups using a rubber band and 5 pieces of string. We realised that only through good team work would we gain success.

ANZAC biscuits

As part of Maths we made some traditional ANZAC biscuits. We learnt about fractions
(1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 3/4)and measurements, but best of all we got to eat the cookies! Here is some work by Kayla and Finlay.

Autumn Haiku Poems

We wrote some Haiku poems about Autumn.  We had been learning about syllables in spelling and so the haiku poem was a perfect chance to use what we learn. Here is a look at some of the work we did.
